Janette's Crafty Goodies

Still a Big Kid Really

Ok, so although Lauren is 16, she really liked the I-spy bags that I made for the little ones.   So I had to make her one of her own.  More suited to a teenager this one had things like a mobile phone, hair staightners, camera, skull, sandwiches and loads of other bits in it.   Made with the same fabric as her lamp, because as usual I had bought loads more fabric than I needed.

I-spy Bags

Found someone in the states selling these for about $25.  Loved them, but thought I could make those.  They are a bean bag with a clear window filled with loads of little goodies hidden amongst the beans for you to find.   The Christmas one was a gift for my nephew and has santa, snowmen, bells, snowflakes and loads of other goodies to find, The Thomas one was for my son,  and includes Lightning McQueen, bugs and animals.   They each contain 30-40 items to find and keep the kids amused for ages.  Even my 2 year old daughter loves playing with this,  I'll have to make her a girly one at some point.

Barbie clothes.

Not something I usually make (Yet! my daughter is still too young for Barbies).  I crocheted these for The MS Society.   I can’t wait to start making these for Libby,  She’s gonna have the best dressed Barbie dolls in town.

Halloween hat and scarf

I don’t usually make much for Halloween, but the ball of orange wool I have had for ages was just the right colour for pumpkins

Halloween finger puppets

“If you stay in bed mammy will give you a treat in the morning”

 “what is it?”

“You’ll have to wait and see”

“Will you make me something Mammy”

“If you go to bed and stay in bed, then yes I will”

 “what will you make me”

“nothing if you don’t get in bed now, ‘cause I won’t have time”

 “ok mammy, night night”

I have had this conversation with my youngest son several times.  But at least I know that someone appreciates the things I make them.   Sometimes I just put some squiggly lines on a toilet roll tube and tell him I made a telescope, but other times, like this one I make a little more effort.  With Halloween fast approaching I decided some Jack ‘o ‘ lantern finger puppets would be just the thing.

Had to spend several hours the next day making them talk to each other, but it was worth it.

Tortoise? Sea turtle? Both when you’re only 3

Fed up of all my towels being used as turtle shells or tortoise shells depending on my sons mood that day, I decided the time had come to make a proper costume to do the job.  I knew I would have something in my stash for this somewhere.  So after a little hunting around we had an old pillow, a green underskirt (came with a sari I bought as I liked the fabric)  and a bit of light brown fabric left over from a baby ring sling I made.  Managed to run this up in about an hour,  could have been quicker but Kieran wanted to help make his shell and be involved every step of the way.  Can anyone manage to sew a straight line with a three year old on their lap?

He’s wore it all afternoon, not my best piece of work, but who cares when it makes him so happy.

While he was busy being a sea turtle and his little sister was sleeping I managed to get a few more projects cut out.  Will hopefully get one or two completed later while they are all in bed.

Just Like his Dad

I can't cook!!  scrub that, I can cook, but I hate doing it.  I would much rather spend my time creating something lasting rather than something thats gone in a matter of minutes.  Luckily my other half is more than happy to cook all the meals and loves nothing more than spending hours slaving over a hot stove. I will however spend time baking, I have a real sweet tooth so I love eating cakes.

Our youngest son is showing all the signs of being just like his dad.  He loves helping his dad with the meals and baking cakes with me,  he had an apron, (that came from his cousin, I think) but it was rather girly.  Shopping around I couldn't find a boys apron anywhere, the nearest were plain coloured ones and he wanted something a bit more special than that.

I gave him the choice from my fabric stash and he decided on a jungle fabric.  It had to have a pocket on for his spoons and rolling pin.

So sweet,  He'll make some lucky girl a great husband one day,  I'll have to teach him to iron when he's big enough to reach the board!!!!
